So if you wear a b cup bra, you’re not exactly tiny – but not even average anymore!  It used to be that b cup bras were the most popular size.  This doesn’t seem to be true any longer.  In fact, the average breast size in the United States has increased from a 34B to a 36C.  Wonder what’s behind this increase?  .

There are several possibilities.  First, breast size is dictated more by the amount of fat and fibrous tissues than by the amount of mammary glands in the breast.  So it stands to reason that as the population becomes more and more overweight, breasts get bigger and bigger.  Second, many clothing manufacturers inflate or deflate sizes according to the current fashion. As we all know, different brands of shoes and clothing fit differently.   As larger breasts have become more fashionable, it is possible that C cups have been getting smaller so that more women can feel proud to have a larger than the average size. 

Another explanation could be the excessive estrogens in our environment.  Because of industrial pollution and widespread use of oral contraceptives, there are high levels of estrogens found in water in many places.  It is therefore possible that average breast size is growing due to this hormonal pollution.  And finally, because breast augmentation is now safer and more common, this could also account in part to the increase in average breast size.
